The Logitech Cordless MouseMan Wheel is a slick little mouse for those who hate the hassle of corded mice but still want all the functionality of a feature-packed mouse. Though not ambidextrous like its little brother, the Cordless Wheel Mouse, it sports a comfortable design for "righties" and adds a additional button near the user's thumb-rest area for more flexibility.
Plug the cord of the receiver into your serial or PS/2 port (adapters included), pop two AAA batteries (included) into the mouse, boot up and press the "connect" buttons on the receiver and the underside of the mouse and you're up and running. The MouseMan uses radio technology, which is less prohibitive than infrared technology. With infrared, if there's an obstruction between the receiver and the mouse, the beam of light it uses to transmit information is blocked and it won't work. This is not the case with radio technology, and you can have a pile of books in front of the receiver and it'll still work because the signal is transmitted in all directions. Logitech claims the MouseMan works up to six feet away from the receiver, which is about the same results I got.
The included software also enables you to configure the buttons for a host of functions. For example the thumb button can be configured as the "Back" function in your browser. The scroll wheel works well too, and very useful in reading the daily news on GameProWorld.com or switching from sniper rifle to shotgun in Unreal Tournament.
But at $55 it's a bit pricey, but you do get what you paid for. If cords are a nuisance in your computing life and you just have to have a mouse without the tail, the MouseMan Wheel is a solid product.-- Danny W. Lam / GamePro
