Review: Destroyer Joystick

There are times when less is more. Times when you don't want a joystick with dozens of fire buttons, hat switches, trim controls, and enough programmable functions to accidentally run the dishwasher if your right pinky slips a little to one side. When you just want a simple but effective piece of equipment to do a simple but devastating job.

Destroyer is a name to keep in mind. This low-end PC joystick from Gravis sports two fire buttons, one on the handle and another on the trigger, and a center-mounted rotary throttle. The buttons' pressure resistance is a little heavy, but I adjusted quickly and didn't find that a problem in some of newer twitch games like Prince of Persia 3D.

Throttle action is good. The oversized base is welcome as well, since I tend to carried-away and lean forward or back in flight sims such as Pro Pilot '99. Plug-in installation is incredibly simple: just attach this sucker to your game port.

The Destroyer isn't fancy-but it gets the job done.-- Barry Brenesal / GamePro
