For a pair of low-wattage (11), subwoofer-less speakers, the JMP-55 Convergence system provides excellent all-purpose sound.
However, these nicely designed, compact units lack basic gamer amenities.
As you'd expect, the speaker set is a snap to install--plugging the left to the right, and the right to your PC and the power supply. The general sound quality is sharp in games, and didn't distort even when the volume was cranked up so high that rocket explosions in Half-Life would make mortal ears bleed. And even without subwoofers, the satellites produce decent bass, though low-frequency sound does suffer for it.
The JMP-55s fall on the higher end of the Jensen Convergence line and contain extra features. The "spatializer" control tweaks "dimension" sound--especially useful when playing CDs. Turned all the way up, a band's recorded performance takes on a "live" concert sound. A headphone output jack lets you switch over to private sound output by simply plugging in a headset.
However, all the planets aren't aligned for this Convergence: The speakers are priced a bit high given the missing subwoofer, low wattage and the lack of game-oriented features like SurroundSound.-- Joel Strauch / GamePro
