Frustrations associated with the myriad cables and cords connected to my computer have sometimes tempted me to throw the whole system out the window.
They have also given me a special appreciation for Microsoft's new Cordless Wheel Mouse.
Do Not Be Afraid
Setup is simple. Plug the receiver into your serial mouse port. Load two AAA batteries into the underbelly of the mouse, select a broadcasting channel and you're all set. You won't need any fancy software drivers. The basic Microsoft wheel mouse drivers (provided you already have them in your OS) are all you need.
This tailless mouse really performs, provided you keep it within the required five-foot range of its receiver. There was no interference, no cursor lag, or any other flaws I could find. In fact, after the first two hours, I forgot I was using a cordless mouse.
The only drawback is the shape. It's the old, ambidextrous, Microsoft Mouse that didn't seem as comfortable any more after Microsoft released the much-improved, much-loved "curvy" design. Why the Cordless Mouse doesn't take advantage of Microsoft's greatest contribution to the mouse is beyond me.
Nevertheless, this is one of the best cordless mice around. If you've been looking to escape the confines of wire-hell, and don't mind the older, less comfortable shape, than it may be the one for you.-- Nash Werner / GamePro
