Laboratory mice whose genes have been
splicedand their goal is to take over the world.
The title song pretty much sums up the plot of
Warner Brothers successful afternoon cartoon
Pinky and the Brain. Brains your typical
megalomaniacal mad-scientist type with a
grotesquely big noggin. Pinky, his lackey in crime,
is a rat with a British accent whos not quite right in
the head. Now SouthPeak brings the gruesome
twosome to your PC with World Conquest.
Adventure game? Uhno. These rodents believe
solving lab mazes will sharpen their world
domination skills (go figure). Whether you scurry
around as Pinky or Brain, your objective is to fill the
floor tiles with your color by running over them. The
30-mission Take Over the World campaign is easy
at first, but as you progress, youll encounter
obstacles like walls, slippery oil, sticky glue, and
other rats who are also filling floor tiles. Youll get
help from power-ups like Tile Bomb Packs, whose
explosions color several tiles at once. Finish the
maze in first place and youre rewarded with a clip
from the cartoon show (funny, but irrelevant to the
game). Then its off to the next puzzle.
Adjustable difficulty levels, 3D graphics, an
easy-to-use maze builder, multiplay, and the original
voices from the show (thank goodness!) combine to
make this a fun run. Theres also tournament mode against three CPU rats
or laugh-a-minute multiplay against three of your friends over the Net or a
LAN.
Story line? Non-existent. Kids game? Absolutely. Fun for adults? You bet!
But be warned: youll have a tough time getting that song out of your head.-- Danny W. Lam / GamePro
