For Microprose, following up the ultra-successful Roller Coaster Tycoon with a juicy expansion pack for the holidays was a no-brainer. But pulling it off required two elements: affordability and replayability.
Roller Coaster Tycoon: Corkscrew Follies has both.
You get more than a dozen new attractions, coaster upgrades, design themes that range from dinosaurs to Alice in Wonderland-inspired mushrooms to oversized playing cards, 25 new scenarios--and all at a reasonable $19.99.
Easily the best thing about Corkscrew Follies is the coaster upgrades. You can build Steel Twisters that allow you to pull off barrel rolls, historical coasters like the Side Friction and the Virginia Reel, and, with the new scenarios, you can build your wildest coasters atop giant seaside cliffs.
You also get a lot of subtle additions like the ability to section off parts of your park, give them different themes and set up neon sign posts reading "Jurassic Zone" or "Lost in Wonderland." And to compliment the new design schemes, you have more control over the colors of your park. You can now paint your roller coasters and even the paths for ride lines!
CF really allows you to go nuts, and boy, is it fun. It's the perfect stocking stuffer. You get a $20 package brimming with new features that will keep you coming back long after winter is over.
