If you're looking for a no-compromise speaker system for your gaming needs, look no further than MidiLand. While not as well known as bigger companies like Creative Labs, MidiLand has been producing solid products, and this 7100 system is no exception.
The seven-piece speaker system (five satellites, subwoofer, and console box) comes together to bring 100W of power to your games and supports Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby Digital formats. The console box is a neat innovation, fitting into a 5.25 slot in your PC and controls everything from the volume to the fading. The little 2.5 inch satellites will fit almost anywhere, and for a limited time MidiLand is also offering free mounting brackets for those two rear satellites (check www.midiland.com for details).
The 7100 is a great performer, and never seems to lack power. Where some speakers would "wimp out" and crackle, the 7100 just seem to beg for you to turn it up a notch. The system also has crystal clear highs to go with the power - great for listening to some serious music. We also found the adjustable treble, bass, and fading function very useful for tweaking to your specifications, something seriously lacking in many systems for your PC.
Consider the excellent quality and the serious power and it's easy to overlook the somewhat uneasy price tag of $160. Sure there are cheaper speakers out there - but you get what you pay for. The 7100 is a definite winner.-- Danny Lam / GamePro
