For an Aliens fan, this game's worth the sticker price
just to hear Bill Paxton's Private Hudson cry, "Game
over, man! Game
over!" when the last
ball disappears.
And the rest? Well,
it's surprisingly
enjoyable.
In addition to Aliens,
you can play pinball
versions of Predator,
The Fly, and Buffy
the Vampire Slayer.
(The Buffster isn't
exactly the epitome of sci-fi, but it does allow Fox
Interactive to Sarah Michelle Gellar on the box.)
The cleverly-designed tables provide plenty of bonus
games. The Predator table, easily the best, lets you
set up different traps and then lure the Pred in with
ball maneuvering. Each table has its own set of extra
games, portrayed in
a cheesy, but
realistically
animated panel of
orange lights.
They're not exactly
complex, but it adds
to the feel of playing
with a real silver
ball.
The video clips from
the TV shows and movies, displayed within that panel, are amusing. The
beeps and whistles of the sound effects provide standard pinball ambiance,
and the audio clips are good for an additional few chuckles.
For the old-schoolers, there's even a bonus table based on the original The
Fly from 1958. (You have to score more than 5,000,000 on the new Fly table
to gain access.) A nice touch, but being from the pinball generation brought
up on cool effects, raised wire tubes, and extra flippers, the vintage table
didn't hold my interest for long.
But the rest of tables sure did. Man, I play
that Predator table like a deaf, dumb and
blind kid.-- Joel Strauch / GamePro
