Capcoms been around for a while on the arcade and
console sides, and now its again testing the PC
gaming waters by porting over a couple of hits from
the arcade/console stations. For the first time,
Street Fighter Alpha 2s Ryu and Bison grace the
PC monitor. Its billed as a flawless translation of
the arcade version, and for the most part, this claim
holds up.
The gangs all here: Ken, Bison, Chun-Li, Zangief,
Akuma18 characters in all. Tiger Uppercuts, Yoga
Flames, and Chun-Lis beautiful Lightning Kick are
included, and special moves like the Zero Counter
(where you block an opponents attack and
counterattack) and the ability to avoid being floored
make this game more than just kick and punch. It
was also great to experience Ryus cry of Hadoken!
as he shot off a fireball, and the Youre better than
you look dialogue boxes on my PC.
A great feature is the Custom Combos. You build
the energy on your Super Combo level gauge by
attacking your opponent. Once you have enough,
you can activate it, making your character move
faster than the Energizer Bunny. Depending on how
much energy youve built up (up to level 3), you can
be performing
devastating super
combos for what may
seem like an eternity
to your opponent.
Unfortunately,
multiplay is limited to
two on one PC.
You shouldnt expect
mind-blowing graphics, and game speed slows down
a lot during some fights. While slowdowns didnt occur as often on a PII 400,
they kept this version from being as much ass-kicking fun as the arcade or
console versions. But if youve got a fast machine and its been a long day,
feel free to smack M. Bison around.-- Danny W. Lam / GamePro
